Hadith 29:12
'Abd al-Rahim ibn Sulayman narrated to us, from Zakariya ibn Abi Za'ida, from Khalid ibn Salama al-Qurashi, from 'Amir al-Sha'bi, who said: Khalid ibn al-Walid wrote during the time of al-Hira to the Marzbans (governors/commanders) of Persia: "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. From Khalid ibn al-Walid to the Marzbans of Persia: Peace be upon those who follow the guidance. To proceed: I praise to you Allah, other than whom there is no god. Praise be to Allah who has broken your service, dispersed your gathering, and caused discord between your words. So when this letter of mine reaches you, accept the covenant (dhimma) from me and respond with the jizya. If you do not do so, I will come to you with a people who love death as you love life."
حدثنا عبد الرحيم بن سليمان عن زكريا بن أبي زائدة عن خالد بن سلمة القرشي عن عامر الشعبي قال كتب خالد بن الوليد زمن الحيرة إلى مرازبة فارس بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم من خالد بن الوليد إلى مرازبة فارس سلام على من اتبع الهدى أما بعد فإني أحمد إليكم الله الذي لا إله إلا هو الحمد لله الذي فض خدمتكم وفرق جمعكم وخالف بين كلمتكم فإذا جاءكم كتابي هذا فاعتقدوا مني الذمة وأجيبوا إلى الجزية فإن لم تفعلوا أتيتكم بقوم يحبون الموت حبكم الحياة
