Hadith 29:124
Waki’ narrated to us, he said: Al-A’mash narrated to us, from Abu Wa’il, from ‘Urwah ibn Qays al-Bajali, that when ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab dismissed Khalid ibn al-Walid and appointed Abu ‘Ubaydah over al-Sham, Khalid stood and addressed the people. He praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: "The Commander of the Faithful appointed me over al-Sham until, when it was [like] butter and honey, he dismissed me and preferred another over me." A man from the people stood up from beneath him and said: "O Commander, for it is the fitnah (strife/trial)." Khalid said: "As long as Ibn al-Khattab is alive, then no. But [it will be] when people are in [a state of] *dhi bali* and *dhi bali*, until a man comes to the land seeking in it what is not in his own land, and he does not find it."
حدثنا وكيع قال حدثنا الأعمش عن أبي وائل عن عروة بن قيس البجلي أن عمر بن الخطاب لما عزل خالد بن الوليد واستعمل أبا عبيدة على الشام قام خالد فخطب الناس فحمد الله وأثنى عليه ثم قال إن أمير المؤمنين استعملني على الشام حتى إذا كانت بثنية وعسلا عزلني وآثر بها غيري قال فقام رجل من الناس من تحته فقال أيها الأمير فإنها الفتنة قال فقال خالد أما وبن الخطاب حي فلا ولكن إذا كان الناس بذي بلي وذي بلي وحتى يأتي الرجل الأرض يلتمس فيها ما ليس في أرضه فلا يجده
