Hadith 29:128
Abu Usama narrated to us, from Isma'il, from Qays, who said: Bilal came to Umar while he was in al-Sham, and the commanders of the armies were sitting around him. He said, "O Umar." He said, "Here I am, Umar." Bilal said to him, "You are between these people and Allah, and there is no one between you and Allah. So look at who is to your left, and look at who is in front of you and behind you. By Allah, these people who are around you do not eat anything but the meat of birds." Umar said, "You have spoken the truth. By Allah, I will not rise from this seat of mine until they provide for every man among the Muslims a mudd of food and their share of vinegar and oil." They said, "That is up to us, O Commander of the Faithful. Allah has expanded the provision and increased the good." He said, "Then yes."
حدثنا أبو أسامة عن إسماعيل عن قيس قال جاء بلال إلى عمر وهو بالشام وحوله أمراء الأجناد جلوسا فقال يا عمر فقال ها أنا عمر فقال له بلال إنك بين هؤلاء وبين الله وليس بينك وبين الله أحد فانظر من عن شمالك وانظر من بين يديك وخلفك إن هؤلاء الذين حولك والله إن يأكلون إلا لحوم الطير فقال عمر صدقت والله لا أقوم من مجلسي هذا حتى يتكلفوا لكل رجل من المسلمين مدي طعام وحظهما من الخل والزيت فقالوا ذاك إلينا يا أمير المؤمنين قد أوسع الله الرزق وأكثر الخير قال فنعم
