Hadith 29:19
Abu Usama narrated to us, from Isma'il, from Qays, who said: Abu Ubayd ibn Mas'ud crossed the Euphrates to Mihran, and they cut the bridge behind him, so they killed him and his companions. He said: He bequeathed [his affairs] to Umar ibn al-Khattab. He said: Abu Mihjan al-Thaqafi lamented him, saying: Abu Khayr has become, his houses are empty, Of what the hungry and the widows used to frequent. Abu 'Amr has become by the bridge, among them, Beside the [river] banks, [among] the sacred and the archers. And I did not cease until I was the last to depart, While the righteous and the noble ones were killed around me. And I was at the throat of their best, At the time of the killing, their throats and the lean horses were bleeding.
حدثنا أبو أسامة عن إسماعيل عن قيس قال كان أبو عبيد بن مسعود عبر الفرات إلى مهران فقطعوا الجسر خلفه فقتلوه هو وأصحابه قال فأوصى إلى عمر بن الخطاب قال فرثاه أبو محجن الثقفي فقال % أمسى أبو خير خلاء بيوته % بما كان يغشاه الجياع الأرامل % % أمسى أبو عمرو لدى الجسر منهم % إلى جانب الأبيات حرم ونابل % % فما زلت حتى كنت آخر رائح % وقتل جولي الصالحون الأماثل % % وقد كنت في ( 1 ) نحر خيارهم % لدى القتل يدمي نحرها والشواكل %
