Hadith 29:20
Abu Usama narrated to us, from Isma'il, from Qays, who said: Abu Ubayd ibn Mas'ud crossed [the river] on the day of Mihran with some people, and he cut the bridge behind them, so they were struck down. Qays said: When the day of Mihran arrived, some people among whom was Khalid ibn 'Arfata said to Jarir: "O Jarir, by Allah, we will not depart from this ground of ours." So Jarir said: "Cross with us to them." I [the narrator] said: "Do you want to do to us what they did to Abu Ubayd? We are a people who are not accustomed to departing or leaving the ground until Allah judges between us and them." Then the polytheists crossed over to them, and Mihran was struck down on that day, while they were at al-Nukhayla.
