Hadith 29:26
Abu Usama narrated to us, from Isma'il, from Qays, who said: I witnessed al-Qadisiyyah, and Sa'd was over the people. Rustam came, and 'Amr ibn Ma'di Karib al-Zubaydi began passing by the rows, saying: "O company of the Muhajirun, be fierce lions! Their affair is nothing; the Persian is but a ram." He intended to throw his spear. He said: There was with them a Persian knight whose arrow would not miss. We said to him, "O Abu Thawr, beware of that one." He said: "We are saying that," when he shot at us and hit his horse. 'Amr charged at him, embraced him, and then slaughtered him. He took his spoils: two gold bracelets that were upon him, a belt, and a silk tunic. A man from Thaqif fled and went alone to the polytheists and informed them. He said: "The people are on this side," and he pointed to Bajilah. He said: They threw at us sixteen elephants with fighters upon them, and at the rest of the people two elephants. He said: Sa'd used to say on that day, "O Bajilah!" Qays said: We were a quarter of the people on the day of al-Qadisiyyah, so 'Umar gave us a quarter of al-Sawad, and we took it for three years. After that, Jarir arrived to 'Umar, and with him was 'Ammar ibn Yasir. 'Umar said: "Will you not inform me about these two dwellings of yours? Even though I am traversing them, I can discern in your faces which of the two dwellings is better." He said: Jarir said, "I will inform you, O Commander of the Faithful. As for one of the two dwellings, it is the closest palm tree of al-Sawad to the land of the Arabs. As for the other dwelling, it is the land of Persia, with its heat, its cold, and its mosquitoes," meaning al-Mada'in. He said: 'Ammar contradicted me and said, "You lied." He said: 'Umar said, "You are the liar." He said: "Why?" He said: "Will you not inform me about the commander of this one? Is he a runner (of affairs)?" They said: "No, by Allah, he is neither a runner nor knowledgeable in politics." So he dismissed him and sent al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah.
حدثنا أبو أسامة عن إسماعيل عن قيس قال شهدت القادسية وكان سعد على الناس وجاء رستم فجعل عمرو بن معدي كرب الزبيدي يمر على الصفوف ويقول يا معشر المهاجرين كونوا أسودا أشداء أغنى شأنه إنما الفارسي تيس هد أن يلقي نيزكه قال وكان معهم أسوار لا تسقط له نشابة فقلنا له يا أبا ثور اتق ذاك قال فانا لنقول ذاك إذ رمانا فأصاب فرسه فحمل عمرو عليه فاعتنقه ثم ذبحه فأخذ سلبه سواري ذهب كانا عليه ومنطقة وقباء ديباج وفر رجل من ثقيف فخلا بالمشركين فأخبرهم فقال إن الناس في هذا الجانب وأشار إلى بجيلة قال فرموا إلينا ستة عشر فيلا عليها المقاتلة وإلى سائر الناس فيلين قال وكان سعد يقول يومئذ سا بجيلة قال قيس وكنا ربع الناس يوم القادسية فأعطانا عمر ربع السواد فأخذناه ثلاث سنين فوفد بعد ذلك جرير إلى عمر ومعه عمار بن ياسر فقال عمر ألا تخبراني عن منزليكم هذين ومع ذلك إني لأسلكها وإني لأتبين في وجوهها أي المنزلين خير قال فقال جرير أنا أخبرك يا أمير المؤمنين أما أحد المنزلين فأدنى نخلة من السواد إلى أرض العرب وأما المنزل الآخر فأرض فارس وعليها وحرها وبقها يعني المدائن قال فكذبني عمار فقال كذبت قال فقال عمر أنت أكذب قال لم قال ألا تخبرون عن امير هذا أمجري هو قالوا لا والله ما هو بمجري ولا عالم بالسياسة فعزله وبعث المغيرة بن شعبة
