Hadith 29:49
Ghundar narrated to us, from Shu'bah, from Mansur, from Hilal ibn Yasaf, from Rabi' ibn 'Umaylah, from Hudhayfah, who said: A man from the people of Kufa and a man from the people of Sham differed and boasted to one another. The Kufan said, "We are the people of the Day of Qadisiyyah and the day of such-and-such." The Syrian said, "We are the people of the Day of Yarmouk and the day of such-and-such and the day of such-and-such." Hudhayfah said, "Neither of you did Allah witness. 'Ad and Thamud perished, and Allah did not consult [anyone] regarding them when He destroyed them. And there is no town more worthy that a great calamity be warded off from it," meaning Kufa.
حدثنا غندر عن شعبة عن منصور عن هلال بن يساف عن ربيع بن عميلة عن حذيفة قال اختلف رجل من أهل الكوفة ورجل من أهل الشام فتفاخرا فقال الكوفي نحن اصحاب يوم القادسية ويوم كذا وكذا وقال الشامي نحن أصحاب يوم اليرموك ويوم كذا ويوم كذا فقال حذيفة كلاكما لم يشهده الله هلك عاد وثمود ولم يؤامر الله فيهما إذا اهلكهما وما من قرية أحرى أن تدفع عظيمة عنها يعني الكوفة
