Hadith 29:51
Hafs narrated to us, from al-Shaybani, from Muhammad ibn Ubayd Allah, that Umar appointed al-Sa'ib ibn al-Aqra' over al-Mada'in. While he was in his assembly, wealth of copper (or gold/brass) was brought to him. It was as if the man was saying with his hands like this—and he spread his hands and clenched some of his fingers—and said, "This is for me; this is from what Allah has granted me as spoils." So he wrote to Umar regarding it. Umar said, "You are a worker from among the workers of the Muslims, so place it in the treasury (Bayt al-Mal) of the Muslims."
حدثنا حفص عن الشيباني عن محمد بن عبيد الله أن عمر استعمل السائب بن الأقرع على المدائن فبينما هو في مجلسه إذ أتي بمال من صفر كأنه رجل قائل بيديه هكذا وبسط يديه وقبض بعض اصابعه فقال هذا لي هذا مما أفاه الله علي فكتب فيه إلى عمر فقال عمر أنت عامل من عمال المسلمين فاجعله في بيت مال المسلمين
