Hadith 29:59
'Abd al-Rahim ibn Sulayman narrated to us, from 'Asim al-Ahwal, who said: Subayh asked Abu 'Uthman al-Nahdi while I was listening, and he said to him: "Did you reach the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace?" He said: "Yes, I accepted Islam during the time of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and I paid three alms (sadaqat) to him, but I did not meet him. And I fought in battles during the time of 'Umar; I witnessed the conquest of al-Qadisiyyah, Jalula, Tustar, Nahavand, al-Yarmouk, Azerbaijan, Mihran, and Rustam. We used to eat ghee and leave the animal fat." I asked him about the vessels, and he said: "We did not use to ask about them," meaning the food of the polytheists.
حدثنا عبد الرحيم بن سليمان عن عاصم الأحول قال سأل صبيح أبا عثمان النهدي وأنا أسمع فقال له هل أدركت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال نعم أسلمت على عهد النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وأديت إليه ثلاث صدقات ولم ألقه وغزوت على عهد عمر غزوات شهدت فتح القادسية وجلولاء وتستر ونهاوند واليرموك وآذربيجان ومهران ورستم فكنا نأكل السمن ونترك الودك فسألته عن الظروف فقال لم نكن نسأل عنها يعني طعام المشركين
