Hadith 29:75
Abu Usama narrated to us, he said: Mahdi ibn Maymun narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Ya’qub narrated to us, from Bishr ibn Shughaf, from Abdullah ibn Salam, who said: When Nihawand was conquered, the Muslims took captives from the captives of the Jews. The Resh Galuta (Exilarch) came to ransom the captives of the Jews. A man from the Muslims had obtained a young slave girl on the morning of the conquest. He came to me and said: "Will you walk with me to this man, perhaps he will appraise this slave girl for me?" I went with him, and he entered upon an arrogant old man who had an interpreter. He said to his interpreter: "Ask this slave girl if this Arab has had intercourse with her." I saw him become jealous when he saw her beauty. He spoke to her in his language, and I understood what he said. I said to him: "You are searching for what is in your Book by asking this slave girl about what is behind her clothes?" He said to me: "You lied. What do you know of what is in my Book?" I said: "I know your Book better than you do." He said: "You know my Book better than I do?" I said: "I know your Book better than you do." He said: "Who is this?" They said: "Abdullah ibn Salam." I left that day. He sent a messenger to me, summoning me to come to him, and he sent a mount for me. I went to him, by Allah, seeking reward and hoping that he would accept Islam. He kept me with him for three days, and I recited the Torah to him, and he wept. I said to him: "By Allah, he is indeed the Prophet whom you find in your Book." He said: "What shall I do about the Jews?" I said: "The Jews will not avail you anything against Allah." But wretchedness overcame him, and he refused to accept Islam.
حدثنا أبو أسامة قال ثنا مهدي بن ميمون قال ثنا محمد بن عبد الله بن أبي يعقوب عن بشر بن شغاف عن عبد الله بن سلام قال لما كان حين فتحت نهاوند أصاب المسلمون سبايا من سبايا اليهود قال وأقبل رأس الجالوت يفادي سبايا اليهود قال وأصاب رجل من المسلمين جارية يسرة صبيحة قال فأتاني فقال لك أن تمشي معي إلى هذا الانسان عسى أن يثمن لي بهذه الجارية قال فانطلقت معه فدخل على شيخ مستكبر له ترجمان فقال لترجمانه سل هذه الجارية هل وقع عليها هذا العربي قال ورأيته غار حين رأى حسنها قال فراطنها بلسانه ففهمت الذي قال فقلت له أبحث بما في كتابك بسؤالك هذه الجارية على ما وراء ثيابها فقال لي كذبت ما يدريك ما في كتابي قلت أنا اعلم بكتابك منك قال أنت أعلم بكتابي مني قلت أنا أعلم بكتابك منك قال من هذا قالوا عبد الله بن سلام قال فانصرفت ذلك اليوم قال فبعث إلي رسولا يعزمه ليأتيني قال وبعث إلي بدابة قال فانطلقت إليه لعمر الله احتسابا رجاء أن يسلم فحبسني عنده ثلاثة أيام أقرأ عليه التوراة ويبكي قال وقلت له إنه والله لهو النبي الذي تجدونه في كتابكم قال فقال لي كيف أصنع باليهود قال قلت له إن اليهود لن يغنوا عنك من الله شيئا قال فغلب عليه الشقاء وأبى أن يسلم
