Hadith 29:96
Qarrad Abu Nuh narrated to us, he said: Uthman bin Mu’awiyah al-Qurashi narrated to us, from his father, from Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakrah, who said: When Abu Musa settled with the people upon al-Hurmuzan and those with him in Tustar, he said: They stayed for a year or thereabouts, unable to reach him. He said: Al-Hurmuzan had killed a man from among their *Dahaqin* (landowners/chiefs) and nobles. His brother went until he came to Abu Musa and said: "What will you grant me if I guide you to the entrance?" He said: "Ask me what you wish." He said: "I ask you to spare my blood and the blood of my household, and to leave between us and what we possess of our wealth and our dwellings." He said: "That is for you." He said: "Find me a man who is a swimmer, possessing intellect and discernment, who will bring you a clear matter." He said: Abu Musa sent for Mujza’ah bin Thawr al-Sadusi and said to him: "Find me a man from your people who is a swimmer, possessing intellect and discernment, and who is not of great importance in his standing; if he is struck down, his loss will be light for the Muslims, and if he is safe, he will come to us." He said: "I do not know what this *Dahqan* has brought, and I do not feel secure regarding him, nor do I trust him." He said: Mujza’ah said: "I have found him." He said: "Who is he? Bring him." He said: "I am he." Abu Musa said: "May Allah have mercy on you, this is not what I intended; find me a man." He said: Mujza’ah bin Thawr said: "By Allah, I will not rely upon an old woman from Bakr bin Wa’il to pay the debt of Mujza’ah with her son." He said: "Since you refuse, then go." So he put on white clothes, took a handkerchief, and took a dagger with him. Then he went to the *Dahqan* until he arrived, and he passed the city. He led him through the water entrance where one enters upon the people of the city. He said: He led him through a difficult entrance that would narrow at times until he had to lie on his stomach, and would widen at times so he would walk upright, and he would crawl in some parts of it until he entered the city. Abu Musa had ordered that the path to the city gate, the path to the market, and the house of al-Hurmuzan be guarded. The *Dahqan* went with him until he intended the path to the wall and the path to the gate, then he went with him to the house of al-Hurmuzan. Abu Musa had instructed him: "Do not precede me in any matter." When he saw al-Hurmuzan sitting with his *Dahaqin* around him, and he was drinking, he said to the *Dahqan*: "Is this al-Hurmuzan?" He said: "Yes." He said: "This is the one from whom the Muslims have encountered what they have encountered? By Allah, I shall surely relieve them of him." The *Dahqan* said: "Do not do it, for they will guard and block you from entering this entrance." But Mujza’ah refused except to proceed with his opinion of killing the *’ilj* (infidel). The *Dahqan* tried to turn him away and insisted that he refrain from killing him, but he refused. The *Dahqan* mentioned the words of Abu Musa to him: "Beware of preceding me in any matter." He said: "Has your companion not ordered you not to precede him in any matter?" He said: "Here I am, by Allah, I shall surely relieve them of him." He returned with the *Dahqan* to his house and stayed his day until evening, then he returned to Abu Musa. Abu Musa called for the people to join him, and three hundred and some odd men volunteered. He ordered them that a man should wear two garments and no more, and his sword. The people did so. They sat on the bank of the river waiting for Mujza’ah to come to them, while he was with Abu Musa, who was advising and commanding him. Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakrah said: They had no concern other than him—pointing to death—to see what he would do. The table was set before Abu Musa. It was as if he felt shy not to take anything from the table, so he took a grape and chewed it, but he was unable to swallow it. He took it slowly and threw it under the tray. Abu Musa bade him farewell and advised him. Mujza’ah said to Abu Musa: "I ask you for something, so grant it to me." He said: "Do not ask me for anything but that I will grant it to you." He said: "Give me your sword so I may gird it with my sword." He called for his sword and gave it to him. He went to the people while they were watching him until he was in the middle of them, then he shouted "Allahu Akbar" and fell into the water, and the people all fell in. Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakrah says: It was as if they were ducks. They swam until they crossed. Then he led them to the hole through which the water enters. He shouted "Allahu Akbar" and entered. When he reached the city, he looked and found only thirty-five or thirty-six men with him. He said to his companions: "Shall I not return to them and bring them in?" A man from the people of Kufa, called al-Jabban, said due to his bravery: "Let someone else say this, O Mujza’ah. You are only responsible for yourself, so proceed with what you were ordered." He said to him: "You are correct." He proceeded with a group of them to the gate and placed them upon it, and proceeded with a group to the wall, and proceeded with those who remained until he climbed the wall. An *’ilj* from the *Asawira* (Persian cavalry) descended upon him with a weapon. He came down and stabbed Mujza’ah, wounding him severely. Mujza’ah said: "Proceed with your mission; let nothing distract you from me." They threw a saddlecloth over him so they would know his location, and they proceeded. The Muslims shouted "Allahu Akbar" on the wall and at the city gate, and they opened the gate. The Muslims advanced as was their custom until they entered the city. It was said to al-Hurmuzan: "These Arabs have entered." He said: "There is no doubt they have breached it." He said: "From where did they enter? From the sky?" He fortified himself in a citadel of his. Abu Musa came riding an Arabian horse of his until he entered upon Anas bin Malik, who was with the people. He said: "But we, O Abu Hamza, have done nothing today. They have killed those of the people who were killed, and captured those who were captured, and they surrounded al-Hurmuzan in his citadel until they granted him safety, and he descended upon the judgment of Umar bin al-Khattab, the Commander of the Faithful." Abu Musa sent them with Anas—al-Hurmuzan and his companions—and they went with them until they arrived before Umar. Anas sent to him: "What do you see regarding these? Shall I bring them in naked and bound, or shall I order them to take their ornaments and their garments?" Umar sent to him: "If you brought them in as you say, naked and bound, they would be nothing more than *’ilaj* (infidels). Rather, bring them in with their ornaments and their garments so the Muslims may know what Allah has bestowed upon them as spoils." He ordered them, so they took their garments and their ornaments and entered upon Umar. Al-Hurmuzan said to Umar: "O Commander of the Faithful, you know how we were and how you were when we were all in misguidance. A tribe from the tribes of the Arabs would shoot an arrow at some of our *Asawira*, and they would flee to a distant land. But when Allah guided you and they were with you, we could not fight them." Anas returned with them. When evening came, Umar sent to Anas: "Come to me in the morning with your captives; I will strike their necks." Anas came to him and said: "By Allah, O Umar, that is not for you." He said: "Why?" He said: "Because you said to the man: 'Speak, for there is no harm upon you.'" He said: "Bring me proof of this, or I will treat you harshly." Anas asked the people who were sitting with Umar: "Did Umar not say to the man: 'Speak, for there is no harm upon you'?" They said: "Yes." This weighed heavily upon Umar. He said: "Did Umar not raise his hands?" He removed them from me and sent them to a village called Dahlak in the sea. When they headed out with them, Umar raised his hands and said: "O Allah, break it (the ship) with them," three times. They boarded the ship, and it shattered with them and broke, and it was close to the land. They emerged. A man from the Muslims said: "If he had prayed that they drown, they would have drowned, but he only said: 'Break it with them.'" He said: So he settled them.
حدثنا قراد أبو نوح قال حدثنا عثمان بن معاوية القرشي عن أبيه عن عبد الرحمن بن أبي بكرة قال لما نزل أبو موسى بالناس على الهرمزان ومن معه بتستر قال أقاموا سنة أو نحوها لا يخلصون إليه قال وقد كان الهرمزان قتل رجلا من دهاقنتهم وعظمائهم فانطلق أخوه حتى أتى أبا موسى فقال ما يجعل لي إن دللتك على المدخل قال سلني ما شئت قال أسألك أن تحقن دمي ودماء أهل بيتي وتخلي بيننا وبين ما في أيدينا من أموالنا ومساكننا قال فذاك لك قال أبغني إنسانا سابحا ذا عقل ولب يأتيك بأمر بين قال فارسل أبو موسى إلى مجزأة بن ثور السدوسي فقال له ابغني رجلا من قومك سابحا ذا عقل ولب وليس بذاك في خطره فإن أصيب كان مصابه على المسلمين يسيرا وإن سلم جاءنا [ ساب ] فإن لا أدري ما جاء به هذا الدهقان ولا آمن له ولا أثق به قال فقال مجزأة قد وجدت قال من هو فأت به قال أنا هو قال أبو موسى يرحمك الله ما هذا أردت فابغني رجلا قال فقال مجزأة بن ثور والله لا أعمد إلى عجوز من بكر بن وائل أتداين أم مجزأة بابنها قال أما إذا ابيت فسر فلبس الثياب البيض وأخذ منديلا وأخذ معه خنجرا ثم انطلق إلى الدهقان حتى سنح فأجاز المدينة فادخله من مدخل الماء حيث يدخل على أهل المدينة قال فأدخله في مدخل شديد يضيق به أحيانا حتى ينبطح على بطنه ويتسع أحيانا فيمشي قائما ويحبو في بعض ذلك حتى دخل المدينة وقد امر أبو موسى أن يحفظ طريق باب المدينة وطريق السوق ومنزل الهرمزان فانطلق به الدهقان حتى أراد طريق السور وطريق الباب ثم انطلق به إلى منزل الهرمزان وقد كان أبو موسى أوصاه أن لا تسبقني بأمر فلما رأى الهرمزان قاعدا وحوله دهاقنته وهو يشرب فقال للدهقان هذا الهرمزان قال نعم قال هذا الذي لقي المسلمون منه ما لقوا أما والله لأريحنهم منه قال فقال له الدهقان لا تفعل فإنهم يحرزون ويحولون بينك وبين دخول هذا المدخل فأبى مجزأة إلا أن يمضي على رأيه على قتل العلج فأداره الدهقان والاصب ان يكف عن قتله فأبى فذكر الدهقان قول أبي موسى له اتق أن لا تسبقني بأمر فقال أليس قد أمرك صاحبك أن لا تسبقه بأمر فقال ها أنا والله لأريحنهم منه فرجع مع الدهقان إلى منزله فأقام يومه حتى أمسى ثم رجع إلى أبي موسى فندب أبو موسى الناس معه فانتدب ثلاثمائة ونيف فأمرهم أن يلبس الرجل ثوبين لا يزيد عليه وسيفه ففعل القوم قال فقعدوا على شاطئ النهر ينتظرون مجزأة أن يأتيهم وهو عند أبي موسى يوصيه ويأمره قال عبد الرحمن بن أبي بكرة وليس لهم هم غيره يشير إلى الموت لأنظرن إلى ما يصنع والمائدة موضوعة بين يدي أبي موسى قال فكأنه استحيى أن لا يتناول من المائدة شيئا قال فتناول حبة من عنب فلاكها فما قدر على أن يسيغها وأخذها رويدا فنبذها تحت الخوان وودعه أبو موسى وأوصاه فقال مجزأة لأبي موسى إني أسألك شيئا فأعطنيه قال لا تسألني شيئا إلا أعطيتكه قال فأعطني سيفك أتقلده إلى سيفي فدعا له بسيفه فأعطاه إياه فذهب إلى القوم وهم ينظرونه حتى كان في وسطة منهم فكبر ووقع في الماء ووقع القوم جميعا قال يقول عبد الرحمن بن أبي بكرة كأنهم البط فسبحوا حتى جاوزوا ثم انطلق بهم إلى الثقب الذي يدخل الماء منه فكبر ثم دخل فلما أفضى إلى المدينة فنظر لم يقم معه إلا خمسة وثلاثون أو ستة وثلاثون رجلا فقال لأصحابه ألا أعود إليهم فأدخلهم فقال رجل من أهل الكوفة يقال له الجبان لشجاعته غيرك فليقل هذا يا مجزأة إنما عليك نفسك فامض لما أمرت به فقال له اصبت فمضى بطائفة منهم إلى الباب فوضعهم عليه ومضى بطائفة إلى السور ومضى بمن بقي حتى صعد إلى السور فانحدر عليه علج من الأساورة معه فنزل فطعن مجزأة فأثبته فقال مجزأة امضوا لأمركم لا يشغلنكم عني شيء فألقوا عليه برذعة ليعرفوا مكانه ومضوا وكبر المسلمون على السور وعلى باب المدينة وفتحوا الباب وأقبل المسلمون على عادتهم حتى دخلوا المدينة قال قيل للهرمزان هذا العرب قد دخلوا قال لا شك أنهم قد رحسوها قال من أين دخلوا أمن السماء قال وتحصن في قصبة له وأقبل أبو موسى يركض على فرس له عربي حتى دخل على أنس بن مالك وهو على الناس قال لكن نحن يا أبا حمزة لم نصنع اليوم شيئا وقد قتلوا من القوم من قتلوا وأسروا من أسروا وأطافوا بالهرمزان لقصبته إليه حتى أمنوه ونزل على حكم عمر بن الخطاب أمير المؤمنين قال فبعث بهم أبو موسى مع أنس الهرمزان وأصحابه فانطلقوا بهم حتى قدموا على عمر قال فأرسل إليه أنس ما ترى في هؤلاء أدخلهم عراة مكتفين أو آمرهم فيأخذون حليهم وبرمتهم قال فأرسل إليه عمر لو أدخلتهم كما تقول عراة مكتفين لم يزيدوا على أن يكونوا أعلاجا ولكن أدخلهم عليهم حليهم وبرمتهم حتى يعلم المسلمون ما افاء الله عليهم فأمرهم فأخذوا برمتهم وحليهم ودخلوا على عمر فقال الهرمزان لعمر يا أمير المؤمنين قد علمت كيف كنا وكنتم إذ كنا على ضلالة جميعا كانت القبيلة من قبائل العرب ترمي نشابة بعض أساورتنا فيهربون أرض البعيدة فلما هداكم الله فكان معكم لم نستطع نقاتله فرجع بهم أنس فلما امسى عمر أرسل إلى أنس أن اغد علي بأسراك أضرب أعناقهم فأتاه أنس فقال والله يا عمر ما ذاك لك قال ولم قال إنك قد قلت للرجل تكلم فلا بأس عليك قال لتأتيني على هذا ببرهان أو لأسوءنك قال فسأل أنس القوم جلساء عمر فقال اما قال عمر للرجل تكلم فلا بأس عليك قالوا بلى فكبر ذلك على عمر قال أما رفع عمر يديه ( 1 ) فأخرجهم عني فسيرهم إلى قرية يقال له دهلك في البحر فلما توجهوا بهم رفع عمر يديه فقال اللهم اكسرها بهم ثلاثا فركبوا السفينة فاندقت بهم وانكسرت وكانت قريبة من الأرض فخرجوا فقال رجل من المسلمين لو دعا أن يغرقهم لغرقوا ولكن إنما قال اكسرها بهم قال فأقرهم
