Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 19:334

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Abd al-Rahim ibn Sulayman narrated to us, from Mujalid, from al-Sha'bi, who said: Ali used to provide the people with *tila'* (a type of cooked grape juice) in small jars. A man became intoxicated from it, so Ali flogged him eighty lashes. He said: Then they testified before him that he had become intoxicated from that which he had provided them. He said: "And why did he drink from it until he became intoxicated?"
