Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Shababa bin Sawwar narrated to us, from Shu'ba, who said: I asked al-Hakam and Hammad about a man who performs *li'an* (oath of imprecation) with his wife, then she gives birth and he says, "This is not from me." They said: "He is to be lashed, for he has belied himself." He (Shu'ba) said: "He is not to be lashed, for he has returned with the curse of Allah—the Book of Allah."
