Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 19:50

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Abd al-A’la narrated to us, from Dawud, from Abu Harb ibn Abi al-Aswad, that a thief tunneled into the house of some people. The guards caught up with him and seized him, so he was brought to Abu al-Aswad. He said: "Did you find anything with him?" They said: "No." He said to the people: "He intended to steal, but you hastened him." So he flogged him twenty-five lashes.
