Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Zuhayr ibn Muhammad, from Yazid ibn Khusayfa, he said: A man who had stolen a bird was brought to Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz. He sought a legal opinion regarding that from al-Sa'ib ibn Yazid. He said: "I have not seen anyone perform the cutting (amputation) for a bird, and there is no cutting for that." So Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz left him and did not cut him.
