Hadith 19:594
Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Abd al-A’la narrated to us, from Hisham, that a man was brought to ‘Adi who had snatched a snatching (committed a theft by snatching). Iyas said: "The penalty (cutting of the hand) is due upon him." Al-Hasan said: "There is no penalty upon him." So ‘Adi wrote to ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd al-‘Aziz, and he said: "There is no penalty upon him." He said: And the Arabs used to call it "the snatching of midday."
