Hadith 12:123
Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Abd al-A’la narrated to us, from Dawud, from al-Sha’bi, that ‘Adi ibn Hatim said: "O Messenger of Allah, one of us shoots at game and tracks its trail for two or three days, then finds it dead with his arrow in it; may he eat it?" He said: "Yes, if he wishes," or he said: "He may eat if he wishes."
