Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 26:315

Ibn ‘Uyaynah narrated to us, from Ibn Abi ‘Arubah, from Qatadah, from a man, from Qabisah ibn Dhu’ayb: That a plague occurred in the Levant, and the members of a household would all die together. So ‘Umar wrote that the one who is higher [in age or status] shall inherit from the one who is lower. And if they were not like that, then this one inherits from that one, and that one inherits from this one. Sa’id said: The "higher from the lower" was that one of them would die while his hand had fallen upon another beside him.
