Hadith 26:439

Ali ibn Mushir narrated to us, from al-Ajalih, from al-Sha’bi, from Abdullah ibn al-Khalil al-Hadrami, from Zayd ibn Arqam, who said: While we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), a man from Yemen came to him—and Ali was in Yemen—and he began speaking to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and informing him. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, three men came to Ali and disputed over a child. Each of them claimed that it was his son. They had all had intercourse with a woman during a single period of purity." Ali said: "You are contentious partners, and I will cast lots among you. Whoever is drawn by lot shall have the child, and he shall owe two-thirds of the blood money to his two companions." He cast lots, and one of them was drawn. He gave the child to him and imposed upon him two-thirds of the blood money. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) laughed until his molars or his back teeth appeared.
