Hadith 26:54

Waki’ narrated to us, he said: Sufyan narrated to us, from al-A’mash, who said: Abdullah [Ibn Mas’ud] used to say regarding a daughter, a son’s daughter, the sons of a son, the sons of a sister through a father and mother, and siblings through a father: He used to give this [daughter] half. Then he would look; if, when she shared with the males, she would receive more than a sixth, he would not increase her beyond a sixth. And if she would receive less than a sixth, he would make her share [with them] as long as it did not cause her harm. Others among the companions of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to say: For this [daughter] is half, and whatever remains is for the male the like of the portion of two females. Abu Bakr [Ibn Abi Shayba] said: This [case] originates from six shares.
