Hadith 11:1
Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Abu Khalid al-Ahmar narrated to us, from Hajjaj, from al-Hakam, from Ibn Abbas: That the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) sent [an army] to Mu'tah and appointed Zayd [as commander]. [He said]: "If Zayd is killed, then Ja'far; and if Ja'far is killed, then Ibn Rawahah." Ibn Rawahah stayed behind to pray with the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). The Prophet saw him and said: "What kept you behind?" He said: "I am praying with you." He said: "A morning or an evening in the path of Allah is better than the world and what is in it."
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا أبو خالد الأحمر عن حجاج عن الحكم عن بن عباس أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بعث إلى مؤتة فاستعمل زيدا فإن قتل زيد فجعفر فإن قتل جعفر فابن رواحة قال فتخلف بن رواحة يجمع مع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فرآه النبي فقال ما خلفك فقال أجمع معك فقال لغدوة أو روحة في سبيل الله خير من الدنيا وما فيها
