Hadith 11:139
Waki’ ibn al-Jarrah narrated to us, [who said] Hammas narrated to us, from Sayyar ibn Manzur, from his father, who said: A son of Abdullah ibn Salam narrated to me, saying: I prepared myself as a warrior. When I placed my foot in the stirrup, my father said to me: "O my son, sit down." I said: "Could this not have been before I prepared myself and spent [my wealth]?" He said: "I wanted the reward of a warrior to be written for me. And indeed, there is a distress that will come from here—and he pointed with his hand toward al-Sham (the Levant). If I reach it, you will see how I act. And if I do not reach it, then hasten toward it."
