Hadith 11:172
Waki’ narrated to us, from Hisham ibn al-Ghazi, from ‘Ubadah ibn Nasi, from ‘Ubadah ibn al-Samit, that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "What do you consider the martyr among you to be?" They said: "He who fights in the way of Allah and is killed." The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Then the martyrs of my nation would be few. The one killed in the way of Allah is a martyr, the one who dies of a stomach ailment is a martyr, and the woman who dies in a state of *jam’*—meaning pregnant—is a martyr."
حدثنا وكيع عن هشام بن الغاز عن عبادة بن نسي عن عبادة بن الصامت أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال ما تعدون الشهيد فيكم قالوا الذي يقاتل في سبيل الله فيقتل فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إن شهداء أمتي إذن لقليل القتيل في سبيل الله شهيد والمبطون شهيد والمرأة تموت بجمع يعني حاملا شهيد
