Hadith 11:192

Zayd ibn al-Hubab narrated to us, Musa ibn Ubaydah informed me, he said: Muhammad ibn Abi Mansur informed me, from al-Sumayt ibn Abd Allah, from Salman, that he was among an army of the Muslims and they were afflicted with siege and hardship. Salman said to the commander of the army: "Shall I not inform you of what I heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, which will be an aid to you regarding this army? I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: 'Whoever guards for a day or a night in the way of Allah, it is equivalent to the fasting of a month and its prayer, in which he does not break his fast and does not turn away except for a need.'" "And whoever dies while guarding in the way of Allah, his reward continues to flow for him until Allah judges between the people of Paradise and the Fire."
