Hadith 11:205
Ya'la ibn 'Ubayd narrated to us, Abu Hayyan narrated to us, from a sheikh from the people of Medina, who said: There was a known friendship between me and the scribe of Ubayd Allah ibn Ziyad, so I requested him to copy for me the letter of Abdullah ibn Abi Awfa to Ubayd Allah. He copied it for me, and in it was that Abdullah ibn Abi Awfa narrated from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, that he said: "Do not ask to meet the enemy, but when you meet them, then be patient, and know that Paradise is under the shadows of the swords." And he used to wait; then when the sun passed its zenith, he would go forth to his enemy while saying: "O Allah, Revealer of the Book, Mover of the clouds, and Defeater of the confederates, O Allah, defeat them and grant us victory over them."
حدثنا يعلى بن عبيد نا أبو حبان عن شيخ من أهل المدينة قال كان بيني وبين كاتب عبيد الله بن زياد صداقة معروفة فطلبت إليه أن ينسخ لي رسالة عبد الله بن أبي أوفى إلى عبيد الله فنسخها لي فكان فيها أن عبد الله بن أبي أوفى روى عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه قال لا تسألوا لقاء العدو فإذا لقيتموهم فاصبروا واعلموا أن الجنة تحت ظلال السيوف وكان ينتظر فإذا زالت الشمس غدا إلى عدوه وهو يقول اللهم منزل الكتاب ومجري السحاب وهازم الأحزاب اللهم اهزمهم وانصرنا عليهم
