Hadith 11:227
'Abd al-Rahim ibn Sulayman narrated to us, from Zakariyya, from Abu Bakr ibn 'Amr ibn 'Utbah, who said: A military expedition went out to the people during the time of Mu'awiyah. Mu'awiyah wrote to Jarir ibn 'Abd Allah: "We have exempted you and your children from the expedition." Jarir wrote back to him: "I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) upon sincerity, obedience, and sincerity to the Muslims. If he (the leader) is just in it, then [it is good], otherwise we will straighten out whoever goes out."
حدثنا عبد الرحيم بن سليمان عن زكريا عن أبي بكر بن عمرو بن عتبة قال خرج على الناس بعث في زمن معاوية فكتب معاوية إلى جرير بن عبد الله إنا قد وضعنا عنك البعث وعن ولدك فكتب إليه جرير إني بايعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم على النصح والطاعة والنصح للمسلمين فإن بسط فيه وإلا قومنا من يخرج
