Hadith 11:54
Abu Usama narrated to us, [who said] Ismail narrated to us, from Qays, from Mudrik ibn Awf al-Ahmasi, who said: I was with Umar when the messenger of al-Nu'man ibn Muqarrin came to him. Umar asked him about the people, and he said: "So-and-so was struck, and so-and-so, and others whom I do not know." Umar said: "But Allah knows them." He said: "O Commander of the Faithful, and a man who sold his soul." Mudrik ibn Awf said: "By Allah, that is my maternal uncle, O Commander of the Faithful. The people claim that he cast himself into destruction." Umar said: "Those people lied. Rather, he is among those who purchased the Hereafter with the worldly life."
حدثنا أبو أسامة نا إسماعيل عن قيس عن مدرك بن عوف الأحمسي قال كنت عند عمر إذ جاءه رسول النعمان بن مقرن فسأله عمر عن الناس فقال أصيب فلان وفلان آخرون لا أعرفهم فقال عمر لكن الله يعرفهم فقال يا أمير المؤمنين ورجل شرى نفسه فقال مدرك بن عوف ذلك والله خالي يا أمير المؤمنين زعم الناس أنه ألقى بيده إلى التهلكة فقال عمر كذب أولئك ولكنه ممن اشترى الآخرة بالدنيا
