Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 20:11

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from 'Ubayd Allah, from Zayd ibn Khalid, Shibl, and Abu Hurayrah, who said: We were with the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, when a man came to him and said: "I adjure you by Allah to judge between us by the Book of Allah." His opponent, who was more learned than him, said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, judge between us by the Book of Allah and permit me to speak." He said: "Speak." He said: "My son was a hired servant (*'asif*) for this man—and the *'asif* is the hired worker—and he committed adultery with his wife. I ransomed him from him with one hundred sheep and a servant. Then I asked men of knowledge, and they informed me that my son must receive one hundred lashes and banishment for a year, and that this man's wife must be stoned." The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "By Him in whose hand is my soul, I will surely judge between you by the Book of Allah. The one hundred sheep and the servant are returned to you, and upon your son is one hundred lashes and banishment for a year. And go, O Unays, to this man's wife; if she confesses, then stone her."
