Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 9:106

'Isa ibn Yunus narrated to us, from Sulayman al-Taymi, from Abu Ja'far al-Ashja'i, that a woman came to Shurayh with her mother and her paternal uncle. The mother wanted a man [for her to marry], and the uncle wanted a man. Shurayh gave her the choice, and she chose the one her mother had chosen. Shurayh said to the uncle, "Do you give permission?" He said, "No, by Allah, I will not give permission." He said, "Will you give permission before you no longer have [the authority to give] permission?" He said, "No, by Allah, I will not give permission." Shurayh said, "Go, marry your daughter to whomever you wish."
