Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 9:1207

'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Firas, from al-Sha'bi, from Masruq, from 'Abdullah, that he was asked about a man who married a woman, then died before consummating the marriage with her and without setting a dowry for her. 'Abdullah said: "She is entitled to the dowry, she is entitled to the inheritance, and she must observe the waiting period ('iddah)." Ma'qil ibn Yasar then said: "I witnessed the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) judge in the case of Birwa' bint Washiq with the same [ruling]."
