Ibn ‘Ulayyah narrated to us, from Yunus, from Mu’awiyah ibn Qurrah, from his father, who said: ‘Umar said: "A man—or he said: a servant—has not benefited, after faith in Allah, from anything better than a woman of good character, affectionate, and fertile. And a man has not suffered a loss, after disbelief in Allah, from anything worse than a woman of bad character and sharp-tongued." Then he said: "Indeed, among them are spoils that cannot be attained, and among them are burdens that one must pay a ransom to be freed from."
