Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 9:128

Narrated to us Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad al-Muharibi, from Layth, from Ata’, regarding a man who marries his male slave to his female slave without witnesses: He said: "If he has them witnessed, it is more beloved to me, but if he does not do so, it is permissible."
