Hadith 9:1305
Waki’ narrated to us, from Abu Hilal, from Muhammad ibn Sirin, who said: ‘Amr ibn Hurayth proposed to ‘Adi ibn Hatim for his daughter, but he refused except on the condition of his [‘Adi’s] judgment. ‘Amr returned and consulted his companions. They said: “Do you want a man from Tayy to pass judgment regarding your marriage contract?” His soul refused, but then he married her on his [‘Adi’s] judgment. Then he departed, and ‘Adi judged [the dowry to be] the Sunnah of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: four hundred and eighty [dirhams]. ‘Amr sent ten thousand [dirhams] to him and said: “Prepare her with it.”
حدثنا وكيع عن أبي هلال عن محمد بن سيرين قال خطب عمرو بن حريث إلى عدي بن حاتم ابنته فأبى إلا على حكمه فرجع عمرو فاستشار أصحابه فقالوا أتريد أن تحكم رجلا من طيء في عقدك فأبت نفسه فتزوجها على حكمه ثم انصرف فحكم عدي سنة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ثمانين وأربع مائة فبعث إليه عمرو بعشرة آلاف وقال جهزها
