Isma'il ibn 'Ayyash narrated to us from 'Abdullah ibn 'Ubayd, who said: Makhul was asked about a man who gifts his sister or his daughter to a man without stipulating a dowry for her. Makhul and al-Zuhri said: The gifted woman is not lawful for anyone after the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
