Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 9:1425

Ya'la ibn 'Ubayd narrated to us, from 'Abd al-Malik, from 'Ata', regarding a woman who gifted herself to a man. He said: It is not valid except with a dowry (mahr). That was not for anyone except the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
