'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Sufyan, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, and from Isma'il ibn Salim, from al-Sha'bi; they both said regarding a man who married a woman upon a prompt or deferred [dowry] and then consummated the marriage with her: They both said: The proof is upon him that he has delivered it to her.
