Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 9:1776

Abu Dawud narrated to us, from Ibn 'Awn, from Muhammad, that when al-Ash'ari arrived in Basra, he saw Qays ibn 'Abbad, and upon him was the trace of yellowness, or he said: *khuluq* (a type of perfume). He said: So he looked at him, and he (Qays) went off to wash it. Then he came back, and al-Ash'ari said: "How quickly you have removed this!"
