Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 9:1778

Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, he said: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Ata’ al-Khurasani, from Yahya ibn Umar, from Ammar, who said: I arrived from a journey, and my family anointed me with some saffron. I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and greeted him, but he did not return my greeting and did not welcome me. He said: "Go and wash this off yourself." So I went and washed it off, but some of its traces remained. I came to him and greeted him, but he did not return my greeting and did not welcome me. He said: "Go and wash this off yourself." So I went and washed it off, then I came and greeted him, and he welcomed me and said: "Indeed, the angels do not approach the funeral of a disbeliever, nor one who is in a state of major ritual impurity (junub), nor one who is smeared with khuluq (a type of perfume containing saffron)."
