Hadith 9:1795

Ubaydah ibn Humayd narrated to us, from al-Aswad ibn Qays al-Abdi, from Nabih ibn Abdullah al-Anazi, from Jabir ibn Abdullah, who said: I walked with the Prophet, peace be upon him, and he said, "Do you have a wife, O Jabir?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Did you marry a previously married woman or a virgin?" I said, "I married her as a previously married woman." The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, "Why did you not marry a young girl so that you could play with her?" I said to him, "It was said to me that you have [daughters] on such and such a day," and he mentioned young girls, "so I disliked bringing a young girl among them. Thus, I married a previously married woman who can remove the lice of one of them and mend the garment of one of them if it tears." The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, "You have seen well."
