Ibn ‘Ulayyah narrated to us, from Mansur, who said: I asked al-Hakam ibn ‘Uyaynah about a man who set a dowry of one thousand in secret and announced two thousand. He said: The secret [amount] is taken, because it is the truth, and the public [amount] is void.
