16474. Abu al-Ahwas narrated to us, from Simak, from Khalid ibn ‘Ar‘ara, from ‘Ali, who said: A man came to him seeking a legal opinion regarding: "And if a woman fears from her husband contempt or evasion" [4:128]. He said: It is the woman who is with a man, and his eyes become displeased with her due to her age, her poverty, or her bad character, so she dislikes separating from him. If she relinquishes some of her right for him, it is permissible for him; and if she assigns some of her days [of marital turn] to him, there is no harm.
