Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Abd al-Salam narrated to us, from Ata’ ibn al-Sa’ib, that a woman possessed from her husband the value of a seventh of a dirham. Maysarah was asked about that, and he said: "She has become forbidden to him, and I do not know from where she would become lawful for him." So I met al-Sha’bi and asked him, and he said: "Go to Abu Bakr ibn Abi Musa and ask him," and he was a judge in those days. So I went to him and asked him, and he said: "If you are unable to do something, then leave it for what you are able to do." So I went to al-Sha’bi and mentioned that to him, and he laughed and said: "Go to Ubayd Allah ibn Abd Allah ibn Utbah." So I went to him and asked him, and he said: "She has become forbidden to him." I said: "From where would she become lawful for him?" He said: "She gifts [it], or she frees [a slave], or she sells [it]." So I returned to al-Sha’bi and asked him, and he said: "Return to him and ask him: Does she observe the waiting period (*‘iddah*) from him?" So I went to him and he said: "No, it is only his water." So I returned to al-Sha’bi and informed him, and he said: "The legal opinion has matched." I went to Ibn Mughaffal and asked him, and Abd al-Salam said: "I did not memorize what he said." Ammar ibn Ruzayq informed me, from Ata’ ibn al-Sa’ib, he said: "I asked Maysarah about a woman who inherited something from her husband, and he said: 'She has become forbidden to him.'"
