Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 9:626

Hafs narrated to us, from al-A’mash, from Ibrahim, from al-Aswad, from ‘Aisha, that she purchased Barirah and then emancipated her. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) gave her the choice [to remain married or to separate], and she had a free husband.
