Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 9:724

Abu al-Ahwas narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from Silah and Najiyah, who both said: "Whoever acquires a slave girl and seeks to establish her purity (istibra'), he shall not approach her until she has menstruated."
