Ibn ‘Uyaynah narrated to us, from ‘Amr, from Yahya ibn Ja‘dah, that a man was abducted by the jinn during the time of ‘Umar. His wife came to ‘Umar, and he ordered her to wait for four years. Then, after four years, he ordered her guardian to divorce her. Then he ordered her to observe the waiting period (‘iddah), and when her waiting period had ended, she could remarry. If her husband returned, he would be given the choice between his wife and the dowry.
