Hadith 9:977

Abu Bakr narrated to us, he said: Abu al-Ahwas narrated to us, from Simak, from Hasan ibn al-Mu'tamir, who said: A man came to Ali having confessed to him regarding himself of adultery. Ali said to him, "Are you a *muhsan* (i.e., have you been married)?" He said, "Yes." He said, "Then stone him." He then remanded him to prison. When it was evening, he called for him and related his affair to the people. A man from the people said, "He has married a woman with whom he has not yet consummated the marriage." Ali rejoiced at that, so he administered the prescribed punishment (lashing) upon him, separated him from his wife, and gave her half of the dowry, according to what Simak perceives.
