Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 36:1

Abu Abd al-Rahman Baqi ibn Makhlad narrated to us, he said: Abu Bakr Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Shaybah al-Absi narrated to us, he said: Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ismail, he said: Sa’id ibn Jubayr narrated to me, he said: Abu Yaksum, the master of the Abyssinians, approached, and with him was the elephant. When he reached the Sacred Precinct (al-Haram), the elephant knelt down and refused to enter the Sacred Precinct. He said: When it was turned back, it would hasten back, and when it was forced toward the Sacred Precinct, it would refuse. Then small white birds were sent upon them, in their beaks were stones like chickpeas; they would not fall upon anyone except that he perished. Abu Usamah said: Abu Makin narrated to me, from Ikrimah, he said: They overshadowed them from the sky. When Allah made them like eaten straw, Allah sent a rain that flowed with them until it took them to the sea.
