Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 36:144

Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, from Jarir ibn Hazim, from his brother Yazid ibn Hazim, from Ikrimah, the freed slave of Ibn Abbas, who said: When the Muslims descended at Badr and the polytheists approached, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) looked at Utbah ibn Rabi'ah while he was upon a red camel of his. He said, "If there is any good with anyone among the people, it is with the owner of the red camel. If they obey him, they will be guided." Utbah said, "Obey me and do not fight these people, for if you do so, that will never cease to be in your hearts; a man will look at the killer of his brother and the killer of his father. So leave them to others and return." It reached Abu Jahl, so he said, "By Allah, his lungs have swollen (with fear) now that he has seen Muhammad and his companions. By Allah, that is not the reason; rather, it is because his son is among them. He knows that Muhammad and his companions are but a mouthful for a camel, if we were to meet." Utbah said, "He with the yellowed buttocks will soon know who the coward is that is corrupting his people. By Allah, I see beneath the shields people who will surely strike you with blows that will leave you (scattered like) the Baqi. Do you not see that their heads are like the heads of vipers and their faces are like swords?" He said: Then he called his brother and his son, and walked between them until, when he had separated from the row, he called for a duel.
