Musannaf Ibn Abi Shayba 36:167

Isa ibn Yunus narrated to us, from his father, from his father—meaning his grandfather—from Dhu al-Jawshan al-Dababi, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) after he had finished with the people of Badr, with a colt of a mare of his called al-Qarha’. I said, "O Muhammad, I have brought you the son of al-Qarha’ for you to take." He said, "I have no need of it. If you wish, I will exchange it for you for the chosen one of the coats of mail of Badr." I said, "I would not exchange it today for a prize; I have no need of it." Then he said, "O Dhu al-Jawshan, will you not accept Islam and be among the first of this affair?" I said, "No." He said, "And why?" I said, "I saw your people have become obsessed with you." He said, "And how is it that the news of their slaughter has not reached you?" I said, "It has reached me." He said, "Then what is it that guides you?" I said, "That you overcome the Kaaba and dwell in it." He said, "Perhaps if you live long, you will see that." Then he said, "O Bilal, take the man’s saddlebag and provide him with Ajwa dates." When I turned away, he said, "Verily, he is the best of the horsemen of Banu Amir." He said: By Allah, I was with my family in al-Awadha’ when a rider approached. I said, "Where are you from?" He said, "From Makkah." I said, "What did the people do?" He said, "By Allah, Muhammad has overcome it and dwells in it." I said, "May my mother be bereaved of me! If I had accepted Islam that day, then asked him for al-Hira, he would have granted it to me." He said: By Allah, I will never drink from a cup for the rest of my life, and no packhorse will ever be harmed beneath me.
