Hadith 36:180
Abu Usama narrated to us, from al-Walid ibn Jami’, who said: Abu al-Tufayl narrated to us, who said: Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman narrated to us, saying: Nothing prevented me from witnessing Badr except that I went out, I and my father Husayl. He said: The disbelievers of Quraysh took us and said: "You intend [to join] Muhammad." We said: "We do not intend him; we only intend Medina." So they took from us the covenant of Allah and His pledge that we would return to Medina and not fight alongside him. We came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and informed him of the news. He said: "Depart; we will fulfill their covenant for them and seek the help of Allah against them."
